There are two ways to limit the rotor speed automatically to protect wind generator: Yawing and electromagnetic braking.

When wind turbine is over rated power, it will take the following step to regulate.

The controlling system detects the output power of wind turbine at real time, and control the output power.

When output power P>20KW, controller will detect the power and give the order to put through the dc power of electric winch, winch will turn for 15 seconds to wind steel cable for about 0.4m, then the wind turbine will furl side and wind rotor will release wind power, output power will low down. If the output power is still over 20KW, the controller will repeat to conduct the above actions. When output power is under 20kw, it will stop furling. When wind turbine power is over 22kw, the controller will start dump load.

When there is an extremely wind condition, the wind turbine is running over power for a long time, the furling action will convert into a fully furling and force to start the hydro brake to stop wind turbine. Wind turbine will be in a gale protection. The wind turbine has to be unlocked manually after the high wind subsides. This is not a frequented action, as said before, in normal condition, wind turbine will regulate its output power through the first action, only when there is a extremely wind condition did the turbine start to brake. The first step furling is with a 60degree, and in this scope it will not start the brake.
